CONCORD RIVERWALK Net Zero

Concord Riverwalk is a progressive cluster development of 10 net-zero energy capable new homes and 2 major renovations in a walkable neighborhood setting.

The developer, NOW Communities, asked ZED to design the HVAC systems for the homes.

Goals.  The mechanical design needed to match the high performance building envelope modeled and designed by Marc Rosenbaum. Ultra-low energy consumption as a baseline was the target with net zero energy performance for some of the homes.

Mechanical Systems.  The 'right-sized' ducted and ductless air source heat pumps and HRVs provide exceptional comfort and excellent indoor air quality with reduced energy consumption..

Renewables.  Solar thermal panels produce ~75% of the required heat for hot water, with the balance provided by an electric hot water tank. The all-electric HVAC and hot water solution is easily upgradable to net zero energy, offers reduced system installation costs for the developer, and lower ongoing operating costs for the new homeowners.
