The US Department of Energy's (DOE) Solar America Initiative (SAI) is accelerating the development of solar technologies with the goal of making them cost competitive across all sectors by 2015. ZeroEnergy Design is working with General Electric (GE), who was awarded a multi-million dollar portion of the grant, on a Technology Pathway Partnership with the goal if improving overall solar photovoltaic system efficiency. Part of the initiative is selecting proper sites for monitoring which have the biggest market viability (as defined by residential housing population, industrial & commercial installed square footage, and insulation quantity). The short term goal is to increase system efficiency through the development of higher performance inverters. The firm is using its expertise with residential high performance housing and systems to help both GE and SAI achieve their respective goals.
