New England Architects: Where We Work

Sustainable Architecture Across New England & New York

ZED designs high-performance custom homes and renovations from our Boston studio, with completed projects spanning Cape Cod, the Green Mountains, and Manhattan. We work where our clients live, and where thoughtful design and sustainability meet.

Whether you're building new on Martha's Vineyard, renovating a brownstone in New York City, or reimagining a farmhouse in Vermont, our process travels with you.

Massachusetts

We're based in Boston and have completed dozens of projects across the state, from passive houses in Brookline to net-zero renovations in Weston to coastal homes on the Cape and Islands.

Greater Boston & MetroWest

We also work throughout MetroWest and surrounding communities, including Weston, Winchester, Westwood, Arlington, Wayland, and Hingham.

Cape Cod & the Islands

The Cape and Islands have their own architectural language. Wind, salt, and light shape every decision, and our work in this region balances coastal tradition with modern performance and resilience.

New Hampshire

Our New Hampshire portfolio spans the Seacoast, the Upper Valley, and the Lakes Region. Recent work includes a barn renovation in Rye, a primary residence with ADU in Hanover, and an independent school project. New Hampshire's mix of historic homes and rugged sites rewards careful, climate-specific design.

Vermont

Vermont is where our passive house work meets the most demanding climate in New England. Our Farmstead project shows what's possible when traditional Vermont vernacular meets near-zero energy performance.

Rhode Island

ZED has designed a number of custom homes in Rhode Island, in areas from Providence & the East Bay to Portsmouth. The coastal climate makes a strong case for high efficiency designs and modern building techniques.

Providence & Northern RI

Newport

Maine has become one of the country's leaders in Passive House design and construction. We approach all our projects there with attention to historic district requirements, shoreland zoning along the water, and the local architectural patterns that make these areas unique.

Southern Maine

Acadia & Bar Harbor

Beyond our core New England geography, we take on projects throughout the Northeast when the right client and project come together.

New York. ZED co-founder Jordan Goldman is based in New York and leads our work there, including an 800-unit Passive House certified multifamily building and ongoing consulting with NYC architecture firms on energy modeling.
